Eye floaters are little spots which seem to be moving in front of your eyes. These can also appear in the form of a thread, black spots or spider web, moving with the movement of the eyeball. It is not a rare phenomenon. It is one of the most common reasons why people go to an eye exam. Until we reach 70, most of us will have such an experience although for some is more disturbing than for others. However, if this situation occurs, it might not be very comfortable for you because nobody is happy to constantly see shadows or spots. There are people who don’t pay much attention to them, and eventually, they get used to it. Most of them don’t seek treatment until the spots become annoying. Sometimes, in certain light conditions, the eye floaters may increase their dimensions but only for a limited period of time.

If you learn to live with these black spots, it’s alright, but if you notice that their number has increased dramatically, you must get rid of eye floaters as soon as possible, and it is time to search for medical help immediately because it may be a sign of some more severe condition. Also, if you see any flashlights, or you lose your side vision go to the doctor for professional help. Don’t let this problem affect your vision permanently because you may suffer from a retinal tear, detachment or even bleeding inside of the eye.

What Causes Eye Floaters

Vitreous humor is a substance which fills the back compartment of the eye, and it looks like a gel. It contains millions of fibers of fine collagen, and these fibers tend to shred as you age. The number of shreds increases as years pass by and the gel is no longer able to fill in the entire compartment. It gets away from the retina and the areas from the back which are attached to the retina begin to float in the gel, and this is what eye floaters are.

It doesn’t matter how old you are; this can happen at any age. But it is a condition more common among people between 50-75 years old. If you have suffered a cataract surgery or you are nearsighted, it is quite possible that this situation occurs. Other causes include eye injury, the formation of crystal deposits in the vitreous humor, eye tumors or diseases like diabetic retinopathy.

All these causes may lead to more or less severe conditions that will affect your eyes. Thus, it is imperative to go to an ophthalmologist when things get worse. Besides hemorrhage, detachment or tear of the retina, inflammation or tumors, eye floaters may be linked with migraine headaches.

One of these techniques is to apply acupressure for eye floaters, a good alternative to medicines which is also very easy to use if you have some basic knowledge about the pressure points. Here is how to get rid of floating eyes using acupressure points.

Gathering Bamboo (B2) – the location of this point is at the inner end of the left eyebrow, right above the nose. It has a long history in helping people gain back the health of their vision. Begin by applying soft pressure with your left index finger and increase the intensity until you feel that it’s beginning to hurt a little bit. Hold the pressure for 2 minutes and then repeat for the right side.

Hundred Meeting (DU20) – you may find this point on the top of your head, right below the highest point of the skull where the depression begins. Point with the thumb to the tips of your ears and place the index fingers on the correspondent point from the head and you will get to Hundred Meeting. Even if we take care of our diet, nowadays everything is filled with pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones and it is hard enough to find a clean source of food or to grow anything in your backyard. If you buy your fruits and veggies from the supermarket, it is possible that you won’t get all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Are veggies sprayed with pesticides? Don’t use these because will lose more than half of the vitamin quantity they should contain. You may need some food supplements to restore the balance from your body and to keep your eyes healthy and clear of any eye floaters.

Increase the intake of Vitamins C, A and E. You may reach up to 900 Vitamin C (go for the supplements that contain bio flavonoids, they are better absorbed), 300 IU of Vitamin A and 700 IU of Vitamin E. You will also need selenium (100 micrograms) and beta-carotene, up to 900-1000 milligrams. One way to replace beta-carotene is to search for hutein. You will need 30 milligrams of this. All these will slow the aging process which is an important factor in the appearance of eye floaters.

Also, spirulina, chlorella, and other blue-green algae will bring an important amount of nutrients for your eyes as they contain chlorophyll that should always be present amongst the foods you eat.

  3. Avoid coffee and smoking. This two damage the function of your liver and kidneys which have an effect on the health of the eyes, too.

This is one of the most thorough articles I found on methods for treating floaters. Whether they work or not I guess I will have to find out. But I have read a bunch of sites and it does seem taurine is a good one to try as well as ginkgo.
But to me it seems the eye exercises and other exercises might work. I will try them and get back to you with my results.
